The most effective marketing is you.
Genuine, unique. Interesting to those you resonate with. Perfect.
It’s over 6 months since I started blogging properly and it’s started to turn into a habit. Sometimes I release stuff and wonder if it’s the right thing to do. But my “sod it, get it out there” muscle is getting fitter.
If I was to give advice to someone thinking of starting their own blog it would be: Just Do It. And enjoy the process of learning a new skill – don’t worry about learning on the job. Nothing you write will ever be perfect.
A lot of the stuff I publish is just eliciting other people’s thoughts. For me that’s more interesting than my own ramblings and you’ll see often in our modern day content marketing culture the idea of reusing our normal life activities to create content.
So my interviews when I go to a trade show are just that. Recording audio I can transcribe later, asking people questions – it’s fun. And as a CTO it gives me good opportunity to connect with industry people and get their thoughts on what’s going on.
So my message is – you already have everything you need to do great marketing. Because it’s you.
Don’t be scared of getting yourself out there. Don’t write to be liked by everyone. Do what’s you, practise, and the rest will follow.
